NEW APPROACHES IN TEACHING SPEAKING IN TEFL CONTEXT
Abstract
This article provides a comprehensive analysis of how traditional methods of teaching is replaced by student-centered, communicative approach. Besides, speaking instruction and existing speaking exercises can be technology-adapted to create fresh, entertaining, and engaging speaking settings. At the same time, due to the integration of new technologies, new approaches have also been developed to adapt the teaching and learning of speaking to new technological contexts. Accordingly, it is straightforward to think that speaking continues to be neglected, that the same traditional methodologies are being used for teaching it and that new materials provided by technologies are not being used to facilitate the teaching of speaking skills. Hence, the study tries to provide an insight into the shortcomings of the educational system regarding the teaching of speaking skills.
Furthermore, this article gives new insights into speaking, addressing the problems to teach speaking aspect to students at different levels and how to deal with them. By focusing on emerging technologies, culturally responsive pedagogy, holistic assessment methods, and innovative professional development, this study offers new and valuable insights that contribute significantly to the advancement of English language teaching.
